  Actress Priya Bapat reveals that she shares great chemistry with beau Umesh Kamat, both on and off screen
It is not the first time that actor Priya Bapat has been paired opposite her real life beau Umesh Kamat. The couple had come together for a daily Marathi soap, a commercial theatre and now, Nava Gadi Nava Rajya, which is a remake of their epic play by the same name. "I have always been a part of experimental theatre. It was time that I explored the commercial stage as well," the actress says. And just when the monotony of staging the play for over 200 times was taking a toll on her, Priya was approached with its film script. "I read the script and was ready to do it in just three minutes," she shares with a smile. She plays the character of Amruta, who is quite like herself, except for the series of incidents which rocked Amruta's life. "I wouldn't have been able to tackle such issues like the way Amruta did," she adds. Otherwise, Amruta is a "happy character who finds joy in little things."

 When asked about her experience in being casted in a film which is an adaptation of a play, she replies, "It is only when we do the film of the same play that we realise the difference between both the settings. The script of a film is more powerful than the play which has limitations." She had an "experience of a lifetime" while shooting at several locations.

"This couldn't happen in the play which was limited to few characters and a single stage." Though the actor reveals that she treasures theatre more than films, she has been equally involved in both. "The stage brings in a different kind of happiness when I see the live reactions of people," she quips. The couple's off screen chemistry is evident on screen as well. "We have to overlook flaws when we get married. That is perhaps the USP of any relationship.

Umesh and I are starkly opposite to each other in real life. However, the bond that we share keeps us connected and is evident in the quality of work we do. Thus working with your spouse has its own set of advantages," she grins. As an actor, Umesh had ventured into the industry much before Priya. "I often seek his opinion after I complete a project," she adds. She remembers how Umesh had given her the boost after the 200th show of Nava Gadi Nava Rajya. "I needed a break and Umesh's presence on stage was like a sudden burst of energy in me," she smiles.
